If an agency meets all these signs, you can book with greater confidence.

 1. Meta-Verified Facebook Page & Page Transparency

A legitimate travel agency should have a Meta-Verified Facebook Page. That blue checkmark means Facebook has reviewed the company’s submitted business permits and verified the identity of its admins—confirming the page is authentic.

Scam pages rarely get verified because Facebook blocks accounts with suspicious or incomplete business information.

Always check the page’s About tab and scroll to Page Transparency. Look for:

• Date the page was created

• Any name changes or rebranding

• Location of admins

🚩 Scam pages are often new, have recently changed names, or show inconsistent branding to avoid detection and impersonate real agencies.

A real business should own a professional website, not just operate on social media. Having a website proves they’ve invested in building their brand, infrastructure, and credibility. Real businesses use emails tied to their own website domain (like sales@travelonline.ph), not free ones like Gmail or Yahoo.

 Example: Would you trust an email from a bank that uses example ABCbank@gmail.com or ABCbank@yahoo.com? Of course not. That’s because you know real companies use professional emails.

Having a domain-based email shows the business has a registered website, and is paying for proper infrastructure. Scammers will avoid this step to stay untraceable.

 4. Corporate Bank Accounts

Real travel agencies use corporate bank accounts—not personal ones. Why does that matter? Because opening a corporate bank account in the Philippines requires:

• SEC or DTI registration
• Business permits

A scammer will usually give you a personal bank account to transfer money to, because they don’t have the permits to open a business account.

 Warning: Be Careful When Doing ONLINE Bank Transfers 

When you transfer money online, the bank does NOT check if the account name matches the account number. They only base the transfer on the bank account number.

Scammers take advantage of this by giving you their personal bank account number, while claiming the account name is a company name—even though it’s not.

 How to Stay Safe:

• Only pay to official corporate accounts.
• Double-check if the account really belongs to the company.
• Call the bank and ask if the account number matches the business name.
• If the details don’t match — do not proceed.

Most scammers only provide prepaid mobile numbers—they’re cheap, untraceable, and easy to discard. In contrast, landlines are linked to a physical address and require proper registration. A travel agency that provides landline numbers shows accountability and offers peace of mind. If something goes wrong, you know there’s a real office you can contact and reach.

Even more important: a physical office address.

Would you trust a company with thousands of pesos if they don’t even have an office you could visit without warning?

A legitimate agency should allow walk-in clients, not just “by appointment” visits. Having an office inside a known commercial building, hotel, or mall proves they’re operating legally. These places require valid business permits and often up to one year of advance rent, which scammers won’t commit to.

7. Don’t Rely on Reviews —Check Mentions

Facebook reviews and comments can be purchase. Some websites sell 5-star reviews, comments and likes to make a page appear trustworthy. Scammers often use these tactics to make their own pages look credible.

Fake reviews don’t includes photos, because bots can’t upload images or create authentic interactions.

check the Mentions section of the page. Look for posts where real users have tagged the business in their vacation photos or shared testimonial reviews. Genuine mentions usually include:

• Personal photos

• Detailed captions  with Real trip experiences

• Likes and comments from their own family and friends

Also, check who’s liking or commenting on the page’s posts. If most reactions come from profiles based in Vietnam, Africa, or other unrelated countries, those are likely bots. Real Filipino customers will usually have friends and family engaging with their posts.

While reviews can be bought, bots can’t fake real Facebook posts or mentions. If you don’t see authentic engagement from Filipino travelers, proceed with caution.
